Be Inspired by Dior Spring/Summer 2023 Couture

Thanks to the House of Dior and YouTube for all images in this post. This and more “Making of…” videos are the property of Dior.

Guys, isn’t it enough to view a delightful Dior dress on their runways and not actually make the same or similar dress? I think so, although the techniques shown in the Dior videos inspire me so viscerally that I am feeling the urge to make them now.

This is why I follow the Dior channel on YouTube. After each season, they focus on techniques of making and embellishing selected dresses (or coats, or tops or pants) from the collection. The atelier staff are duly featured; since they all speak in French you can enable the subtitle option in YouTube to overcome the language barrier.

So, here’s a link to the making of the Spring/Summer 2023 collection, and may I say, it is mesmerizing. Dior, SS 2023 . The muse for this collection is none other than Josephine Baker, and other ground breaking Black women. It’s a must watch. There is more awe inspiring content in the video than the ones featured in this post!

Random and intentional creasing of fabric.
Result 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. As if you pulled it out of an old trunk in the attic. Love it.
Creased or crushed velvet is demonstrated in the video
Coat with possibilities even though it has bathrobe vibes. Love the purposely creased silk velvet combined with quilted lining. ❤️
Rouleau strip grid filled in with the spider stitch. True haute couture.
Spectacular result. Note that the minimalist silhouette enhances the handmade “fabric “.

I am so inspired, even if it takes me the rest of my life to complete this. I hope you’re inspired too.

Till the next post…

  1. Just beautiful…all of it, but especially the handmade fabric! I wish I had the patience. Then again, I think I’d be pretty good at ironing creases in fabric for fantastic results. Thank you for sharing this!
