Fashion Design Bloopers and Misses

I’m feeling mean today — really mean. This is what showed up on the red carpet and the fashion runway. I just chose three but there are more. At first glance, two of these elicited a positive response in me because they do look pretty; the more I tried to analyze them, the meaner I became. The third was ridiculous right from the get go, even if the designer’s intention was just to make a statement.

1. Pretty at first glance:

Grab the above sweater when you can’t decide on whether it’s hot or cold outside. It can only be labeled as an oxymoron. It’s a pretty design but there’s no practicality. Wait —- why not wear it over a full sleeved, closed fitting stretchy top where its sleeve will cover the bare arm? There, I fixed it. This is a collaboration between H&M and Mexican designer Lorena Saravia.

2. Gorgeous at first glance:

Beautiful dress at the Golden Globe Awards! Is there room in the design so she can sit down, though? I want to see the back. Plus, is the lacy bodice and peplum worked on shaped boning? Is a metal cage involved? Seriously, the designer must divulge some couture secrets. I tried to locate the designer, but no luck.

3. No Way:

On the Grammy red carpet. Image credit: Getty Images For those not in the know regarding tailoring a jacket, that gray piece is horsehair canvas which is used to stabilize the fabric and shape of the jacket.

Oops, someone forgot to finish up this outfit! Wait, is she wearing it inside out? Whatever the designer’s intention, it is a hearty tribute to the actual clothing construction professionals (aka seamstresses). See what we have to put inside a tailored jacket?? Designer Thom Browne’s piece wouldn’t last a day on Project Runway (or would it? Those judges are full of surprises), but his outfit made it to the red carpet. Let’s fix this; I’m visualizing this outfit turned right side out, remove the sleeves and hem it evenly. I kind of like the tailored look on top, and the feminine skirt on the bottom. I like the hourglass silhouette which makes it high fashion, in my opinion.

  1. I get paper doll that has been ripped on the last one, at first I thought the gramophone on the back wall was attached as well!
