Primary

Today, March 6, 2018 is primary election day in my state., and I will be dressed in “primary” colors; yeah – so literal that I was rolling my eyes at myself. But, its kind of fun to dress literally for the occasion.

This pile of knits was ordered recently from Sew Much Fabric without any thought to the election season, or to the primary colors of the color wheel; yet, here we are.

Initially, I was going to use black knit for the neckband, the sleeve cuffs and the hem band, just for some contrast; because, this beautiful shade of golden amber doesn’t do any favors for my skin tone. But I love the color and black trim at the neck might be kinder and gentler.  Then plans changed and I used red for the neck band; and then, things took another turn when I used the cobalt blue for the cuff bands. Now the combination of colors became worthy of Tuesday’s primary elections!!

My go-to knit top pattern is the Renfrew from Sewaholic Patterns, and the “primary” top was the seventh time I’ve used it. I still wear the last six pieces and have been wearing them since 2014.

So, readers, many of us make it a point to wear certain items and colors on certain holidays. Red and green on the Christmas holidays, Red on Valentine’s Day and so on. I  took it a bit further to wear primary colors of the color wheel on primary election day. (It should be declared a public holiday, in my opinion.) Now, to plan a piece for wearing on the general election day in November – red, white and blue?  What’s the point if you can’t have fun with your self-sewn clothing?

Tell me, do you wear particular clothing on election day?

    1. Hi Lynn! Are you still abroad? I voted early – in person – but wore this top on primary day anyway. So, no one but me, my daughter and a couple of repairmen saw it. Oh well, I had fun with it.

  1. Unfortunately we take voting for granted in the USA. :o( No special dress or anything.

I love your top! I’ve been using up 30 year old ribbing (from my oldest sons now 42 and 36) for my youngest sons ages 10 to 22. I hadn’t used it for so long I forgot how much I enjoyed mixing the colors of it on garments! It almost……………makes me feel like buying more! LOL! But my goal is to use up everything I have left in my stash before the 10 year old hits 18 :o)

I love the color/fabric of your top. I’d never have bought that color- but your beautiful top really shows what a flattering color it is!

    1. Thanks! Yes, my state is supposed to be a low turnout state – I think this year it somewhat changed but generally, looks like people don’t like to show up to vote.
Oh well, I had fun making this top. I, too, am trying very hard to work through my fabric stash. But the pile of knits was purchased because that is what I find myself wearing most as I age. My knit fabric stash was getting depleted…
What a coincidence, your oldest sons are the same (almost) age as my oldest daughters, 42 and 37.

    1. Hahaha! Like your use of the term “incumbent”. The rest of the knits will be tops and I have some ideas in mind but they’re still percolating….
