Tired of reading about this still unfinished tunic?

Think about my emotional state when things keep going wrong with it. Sorry, I refuse to abandon it. Here’s the latest mishap: while sewing the collar pieces together, the interfaced piece decided to do a somersault while I wasn’t looking, causing me to sew the incorrect sides together. Hmmmmph. It’s all good now, since my seam ripper and I bonded over righting the wrong.

Let’s have some fashion eye candy.

This, found on the Chanel runway, Spring Couture 2024. Besides the overall Muslim woman vibe (probably catering to their wealthy Arab princess clients), the pockets are sheer, showing the gorgeous lace underneath!

They’re visually appealing but probably not practical for us plebeians. But in haute couture practicality is so gauche. The unexpected transparency is akin to letting other people look inside your purse, should you decide to add in a phone, money or a lipstick. I’m still tempted to try. Yes or no? What would you do? WaitI have an idea where the see-through aspect is maintained but the contents inside are invisible. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? If not, I’ll share my thoughts next time; I’m excited about this sudden epiphany!

Is it censorship when there is a dress code in the name of public decency?

Nudity in gowns is now prohibited for attendees at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. I do not blame the organizers! While we live in a country that rightfully prides itself on individual freedom, some of the attendees pushed it so far that the organizers had to put their foot down; and in the entertainment industry, that is saying a lot. I suggest you Google Halle Berry’s gown worn on the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, because I am not putting up that image here. We’re a family blog 🙂 . To be fair, the Cannes Film Festival people also put a limit on how voluminous the evening gowns should be on the red carpet, for the sake of public safety. Apparently, people kept tripping on hugely trailing hems, poufs and such.

Most happiness inducing image:

The New Yorker magazine cover from years past. I found this image on a Substack account and my thanks to that account holder —- which brings me to inform you that I am trying out the Substack platform which I find a much better community than what other social media platforms have become. I’ll keep blogging on WordPress and will share the posts and other thoughts on Substack. I’m still figuring out Substack so there are no “notes” from me yet. But I do follow other people there, be they sewing pros, sewing amateurs, authors, politicos — and even the great-great-great grandniece of Jane Austen! Be warned that my Substack posts will be about creating fashion AND other things. Will share a link to my account name when I do start writing over there.

I have much more sewing and fashion trivia to chat about and will share it with you in the near future. Onward pilgrim —- to finish that darn tunic with the daffodil print. I tried it on un-hemmed and quite like it 🙂

Keep cool and sew on…

Samina
