Things I Sewed for Threads Magazine’s Pattern Review Feature.

Hi guys! I have been sewing a bunch of garments — just not for myself. And, here they are in the pages of my favorite magazine, Threads. It’s a joy to sew up something that need not go through a fitting process for one particular person. I was given the pattern, the size, fabric, notions and asked to follow the pattern guidesheet. Other times I was asked to just make a muslin and review the pattern —- whether it accurately comes together, for clarity of instructions, etc. etc…..

If you have not yet subscribed to Threads magazine, why not?? You could ask loved ones for a gift subscription on your birthday, or on a holiday of your choice. Disclaimer: I get paid for making the garments in the Pattern Review feature, but not for promoting the magazine; just to be clear. I want to thank Threads for these images which are really photos of the magazine pages.

Inside issue #225

I loved making this skort! The pictured piece is in a medium weight cotton using the pattern from Jessielous Patterns. It is giving me such a summer-in-Los Angeles vibe.

Plus, another jersey outfit in maroon, worthy of wearing to all your summer parties; the pattern used is Simplicity 9789. The top is made in two layers — the base layer, and a ruched layer to top it. If I were making it for myself, I’d use a stretch tulle for the ruched layer to give it a lighter and diaphanous look. The skirt is a simple, quick make that can be extended to a maxi or shortened to a mini.

Inside issue #226

The cover on this issue shows the model wearing something I only tested and muslined. I won’t write any review here since I do not want to violate publishing rights of the magazine. If I ever make it for myself (unlikely), I shall write a personal review. The actual pictured version on the cover was sewn by another seamstress. It’s a very cute pattern bundle from an Australian pattern company called Swim Style. The top pictured on the cover extends to become an actual swimsuit — or a bodysuit.

Inside the same issue are these two cuties which someone else tested and I sewed up the pictured versions.

A very cute box-pleated skirt in a medium weight cotton with a fantastic print; it’s from a size inclusive pattern line called Muna and Broad. I must mention that the front has box pleats but the back of the skirt is a plain dirndle style. If I make it for myself, I’d like to extend the pleats to the back. What do you think? So many possibilities…..

In the same issue, an adorable orange jersey dress made with the now-legendary size-inclusive Cashmerette pattern company; this one is included in a pattern bundle which, according to the company, has about 400 possibilities. I am not counting. The Grafton dress, as it’s called, is emitting vintage vibes.

I thoroughly enjoyed testing (the swimsuit bundle) and sewing up all of these.

Have a great summer! I am.
